Sirangdae is a rocky area on the southern beach of Dongam Village in Sirangli, Gijang-gun in Gijang-eup. It has long been known as the best scenic spot in Gijang’s history. This is where the legend of the dragon lady originates from, and has been called Wonangdae since ancient times. This place was called bipore, due to the colorful mergus merganser birds which flocked together and flew over the waves. It is a coastal village with the ocean to its east. As it is close to the coast, the flat plain spreads out widely. It refers to the stone rock on the side of Haedong Yonggungsa Temple. Looking at the front of the rock, the blue sea of the East Sea looks like a mirror beyond the horizon. The views are the very reason why the spot has attracted so many visitors from the past until the present. In the past, many distinguished visitors who visited Gijang left epigraphs here.
