The Gijang Seaweed and Sea Kelp Festival was first held in 2008 after Gijang was appointed as a special region for seaweed and kelp, in order to upgrade and brand seaweed and kelp. Gijang seaweed is a local special produce that is known nationwide, and is often found on our dinner tables. In the Choseon dynasty, it was served at the royal dinner table, proof of its high quality. Currently, the Gijang Seaweed and Kelp Festival is a turning into a festival where everyone, both young and old, can enjoy the seaweed and kelp of Gijang on a warm spring day.
